Rev. Barbara J. Hunter Thompson

 

Rev. Barbara J. Hunter Thompson, a native of Bessemer Alabama, graduated from the public schools of Bessemer.  She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Carlow College in Pittsburgh, Pa.  She completed a Master of Arts, a Master of Education and a Doctor of Philosophy in Education Administration from the University of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Thompson is an ordained Local Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church and an Associate Minister at St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Columbus, Ohio. She is President of the Third District Ministers' Spouses, Widows and Widowers Organization, Plus P.K.'S, past 1st Vice President and past Recording Secretary of the Connectional Ministers' Spouses of the A.M.E. Church.  Before being ordained a minister, she served as Vice President of the Women's Missionary Society in churches where her husband was assigned and as Chair of the Tanner Turner Memorial Commission of the North Ohio Conference WMS.  She has served as Director of Women's Ministry at churches where her husband pastored.  

 

Because of her love of music, she has since childhood continued to sing in the church choir and with various community choirs. She sang with symphonies in Pittsburgh and Cincinnati.  She taught music in the public schools and directed award winning choirs.


 

 Dr. Thompson is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Kappa Delta Pi, an honor society in education, and Phi Delta Kappa, an international fraternity in education.  She has been involved in and received distinguished service and appreciation awards from community and church organizations.  


 

Dr. Thompson is married to Rev. Dr. Taylor Thompson, pastor of St. Paul A.M.E. Church, Columbus Ohio.
